Serve and Empower Those Who Have Been Displaced

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Home for Refugees. We can’t fulfill our mission without you. Volunteers play an integral role in our efforts to help refugees across the U.S. Whether you are an educator, stay at home mom or dad, doctor, attorney, or have a special skill like a second language or not, you can make an impact simply by loving these men, women, and children. If you are interested in sharing that love with newcomers, we invite you to volunteer with us.

STEP 1 - Attend a virtual info session

Please email info@hfrusa.org to get on an interest list to receive an email when the next date is released for our next virtual info session.

STEP 2 - COMPLETE AN ONLINE APPLICATION WHICH INCLUDES A $50 APPLICATION donation. Once your application is approved, you will be doing a $19 background check through Sterling Volunteers.

After attending a virtual info session and you get your questions answered, you recruit your team of five and we will then send you a link to have everyone on your team complete our online volunteer application.

STEP 3 - TRAINING

All the members of your team are required together to attend a series training events. These training times include (1) an introduction to the foundation of our work, an overview of Home Teams and how they work, (2) fundraising and Home Team communication tools, (3) navigating a helping relationship and cultural differences, and finally (4) an overview of the year which includes a timeline and assignment of team responsibilities and roles.

step 5 - fundraising

Types of Home Teams with Fundraising Goals:

  1. Home Teams resettling Ukrainians across the U.S. through Uniting for Ukraine Program fundraise $20,000. From this $20,000, $5,000 helps cover the cost of training and coaching your team for the year and $15,000 for your Home Team’s Family Start Up Fund.

  2. Home Teams resettling refugees in Southern California partnering with resettlement agencies fundraise $10,000. From this $10,000, $5,000 helps cover the cost of training and coaching your team for the year and $5,000 for your Home Team’s Emergency Fund.

step 6 - refugee arrives!

When the refugee arrives, your Home Team and the refugee start your year off with a Welcome Meal together!
